You watch videos on MTV and wonder how you can get a music video audition. (That’s even if MTV even plays music videos anymore). Since the 1980’s,  MTV has been playing music videos that change the way people see music. On the videos are seductive dancers, break dancers, extra in the background, and more. Music video casting directors are always looking for people to fill that spot. Now it’s your turn to get a piece of that pie.

If you want a music video audition, there are a few routes that you can take. If you want to be in the dance routine you’ll need to know the choreographer. But if you want to be an extra, like one of the girls in the music videos, you just need to get the right music video audition to get in.

Being a dancer at a music video audition
To be a dancer at a music video audition, you’ll need to convince the video producers, casting directors, and dance choreographers that you have the skills to learn a new dance routine and do it flawlessly.  You’ll need to possess the right looks, characteristics, and most importantly, the right attitude for the job.

Dance choreographers can be picky with who they choose because there are a line of more dancers outside the room if you’re not good enough. These people are looking to make a name for yourself and would gladly take your place at the drop of a dime. Remember these tips at your next music video audition.

It’s important that when you go to a music video audition that you stay cool and calm. If you can’t portray that you can be calm in front of the casting directors, then they will think that there is no way you can be confident in front of a camera.

Trying to be an extra at a music video audition
To be an extra in a music video audition, you do not need as much skill as a dancer. You mainly just have to have the right look and have the right characteristics. Many casting directors look for certain features about you that they want to showcase in their music video.

One last tip: be sure to always arrive early to your music video audition. Give yourself at least 15 minutes extra before your audition time. This is important because you will probably need to check in and fill out forms. Good luck with your music video audition search and remember to never give up.
