Those who are looking for musicians are looking for musicians who are not only talented but also know music theory. A lot of people think knowing music theory maybe a waste of time, but it is very important parts of not only playing music but composing as well. If you are interested in learning music theory you can buy books or borrow them from the library, or you can do research on the internet. Personally you can find most of the lessons you need to know on the internet, but if you are someone who likes books it maybe worth it to purchase the book you want.

Another thing that people looking for musicians look for is the ability to read music. Although many musicians know how to play by ear, it can be beneficial to learn how to read sheet music. Having this ability will give you an advantage over many musicians who will not put in the time to learn how to read sheet music. In a industry as competitive as the music industry any advantage you can gain is always a plus.

If you want to perform well for those who are looking for musicians you should look into getting a mentor. A mentor is someone who is more advanced than you who can teach you and help you pinpoint pitfalls so you do not have to experience this. Having a mentor can really cut down the learning curve, which in time will save you time, which will than save you money. I definitely recommend that you look into meeting someone who you can learn of. Even if you have to offer to do things for them, it will be worth it in the long run.

Lastly remember to practice as much as you can. The more experience you can get as musician the faster you will improve your music skills.
