One of the first things you should do that is both cost effective and a great way to start building your acting resume is to join the theater arts program of your nearby university or college. In these programs you will get to create audition monologues to put on your resume, as well as better your skills as an actor or actress.

You should also look into finding a reputable acting school where you will meet teachers and students who are very serious in their careers.

Before you even search for any auditions make sure that you have a really good resume along with a cover letter. Having a portfolio with great head shots would also be a good idea.

Really good agents will have no problem finding you work and will keep you on everyone’s tongue. The only downside is that they do take a fee somewhere in the 15% to 20% of your earnings. You will also learn that different casting directors cast different productions from film, commercials, television, print, and theater.
