If there is a local college or university near you than they probably have in theater arts program. You should join and participate in this program as you will get a chance to hone your skills as you’re an actor. You will also get the experience of developing audition monologues that will look good on your acting resume.

Next you should look into going to a premier acting school where you will work with other people who are serious in pursuing their acting career.

Build up your resume by submitting yourself into auditions and casting calls.

First you create a really well made cover letter, resume, and professional pictures. Make sure everything is proofread and even take it to someone who specializes in resumes so they can tell your cover and resume are well written.

Next find casting and auditions in your area by getting a talent manager or a manager. To find a good agent make sure you ask actors to refer you to a good agent. Some entertainment industry publications such as Backstage and Variety are good sources to find auditions and casting calls. You can also find a lot of free auditions and casting calls on various websites on the internet.

Also look into companies that specialize in castings to help you find an audition for acting. Find out who you can get in touch with to do certain types of productions. Something you will discover is that different casting directors specialize in different types of production. Some will specialize in film production, whilst other will specialize in commercials, theater, print commercials or television.

After you have researched and obtained contact information for an agent, it is important that you be as professional as possible and gives them the thoroughly proofread resume and cover letter.

While we are on the subject one thing I must clarify is that an agent is not required to get an audition for acting. Many people take this route because a good agent will keep you exposed and get you work, but they do take a percentage of your earnings.
