If you are looking for an acting job, you know that it’s hard work and also may not know where to start. Sometimes you need the right push to get you in the direction of getting your first acting job.

If you have some experience in theater, TV commercials, or even film, all you need is a lot of perseverance to be able to land an acting job. The bad thing about having an acting job is that it is only short-term and you’ll need to bounce from one acting job to another just to pay the rent and the bills. So looking for acting work is something that will always be happening.

A better problem to have is to pick between an array of jobs and figuring out which acting job you want instead of trying to get an acting job in the first place.

You’ll need to keep in your back pocket your resume and a headshot that you can show casting directors. A head shot is a black and white photograph of you as an actor that shows your head and some of your shoulders in the best light possible. Keep the head shot as current as you can so that you can get casted for the right role.

It’s good to have at least 50 head shot photographs on hand and make sure your agent has some too. On each head shot should have your full name and also your agent’s information. Also be sure to attach your resume with all your acting experience to the back of your head shot photograph. This will help you land that acting job that you’ve been dreaming about.

Also don’t stop gaining experience on acting. Aspiring actors should start young and join school plays and the theater club. Even if you don’t have the experience, make sure you are always on set. If you can’t find an acting job, work on the crew of a set so that you get experience in that front. Some people believe that you need to earn your rank in acting and can start at volunteer acting jobs first. Even non-paying roles can land you the experience you need.

Don’t get too discouraged. Note that even the big name actors you see on the big screen today had to go through some trials and tribulations. For example, Dustin Hoffman has worked at many odd jobs before in the past before he landed big roles in films. He worked as a coat check person, a typist who typed up city directories, and even made Hawaiian leis as a way to make money.
